BACKGROUND & EXPERIENCE:
Kris has more than 10 years of experience
in education and government service. During that time he has worked as a
professor at Miami Dade College and as a teacher in the Miami-Dade Public
School System. In addition, he has held senior positions at nonprofit
organizations including The Greater Miami Office of The National Conference
for Community and Justice and The Black Archives Research and History
Foundation of South Florida, Inc. In addition to his education and nonprofit
experience, Kris has actively worked on urban revitalization efforts that
have focused on historic preservation, commercial corridor improvements, and
neighborhood branding. Kris is currently serving as the administrator for
the Overtown Neighborhood Enhancement Team for the City of Miami.
RESEARCH INTEREST:
Kris’ research is titled “The Convergence of
the Main Street Approach and Smart Growth Principles as an Urban
Revitalization Strategy.” He is examining key strategies to create a
mixed-use, mixed-income, financially viable community that does not expose
residents to significant displacement.
