JONATHAN FORD
Boston, Massachusetts
AFFILIATION:
Project engineer, Judith Nitsch Engineering, Inc.
AREA
OF EXPERTISE:
Site layout and sustainable storm-water
management systems
BACKGROUND & EXPERIENCE:
Jon has six years of experience in
civil/site engineering design, with a focus on sustainable storm-water
management and innovative storm-water management solutions that complement
aesthetic design goals. After graduating from the University of Notre Dame
with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering he spent two years in Chicago
before joining Judith Nitsch Engineering. Jon was an American Council of
Engineering Companies “New Faces in Engineering” national selection in 2005.
In addition to his work as a civil engineer, Jon is a cofounder and
membership/outreach chair for the New England Chapter of the Congress for
the New Urbanism, where he is responsible for the chapter’s educational
programs, social activities, membership development, and regional outreach.
RESEARCH INTEREST:
Jon wants to facilitate the building of better places by documenting the
transportation planning and civil/environmental engineering benefits of
Traditional Neighborhood Design (TND). His research project will produce a
document that addresses 15 transportation, civil engineering, and
environmental focus areas that are common concerns relating to the
implementation of TND. The document will outline hypotheses demonstrating
that when implemented correctly, not only is TND consistent with standard
engineering practice, but also in many cases TND principles result in
superior performance.
