YON LAMBERT

 Spartanburg, South Carolina

AFFILIATION:
Assistant Director, Palmetto Conservation Foundation

AREA OF EXPERTISE: Planning and public policy

BACKGROUND & EXPERIENCE: Yon spent more than ten years on staff at The State, a Knight-Ridder daily newspaper in Columbia, S.C. In 1999, Yon left the newspaper to join Palmetto Conservation Foundation, a statewide nonprofit in South Carolina that works to conserve natural areas, preserve historic landmarks, and promote active living. He is now the organization’s assistant director. In addition to policy work and strategic communications, he has acquired rights-of-way or planned more than one hundred miles of bicycle-pedestrian routes, secured in excess of four million dollars for development, facilitated public processes on numerous projects, addressed endangered species or cultural resource surveys, successfully negotiated trail rights-of-way with railroads, and overseen millions of dollars in construction.

RESEARCH INTEREST: Yon will examine the economic benefits of bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure, particularly as it relates to small towns and communities.
